The Asha'man serve as the male counterpart to the Aes Sedai, an order of men bound by their ability to channel the One Power. Founded by Rand al'Thor at the Black Tower as the Last Battle loomed, this organization was born from necessity: to train and organize male channelers who had long been hunted or driven into madness by the taint on saidin. While the White Tower clings to rigid hierarchy and gender segregation, the Asha'man were forged initially as a military instrument under the Dragon Reborn’s direct command, their internal structure shifting violently with the tides of war.

Loyalty to Rand al'Thor fractured when Mazrim Taim’s faction embraced the Shadow, adopting the mantle of Dreadlords. In Their Own Story
The air inside the Black Tower's great hall was thick with the scent of ozone and unwashed bodies. A young man from the Borderlands stood trembling before his instructor, his hands glowing with a faint, blue light that sputtered against the stone floor. 'Focus,' the older man growled, his eyes sharp despite the madness that had once threatened to consume him. 'The Power does not care if you are afraid. It only cares if you can hold it.' Outside, the wind howled like a dying beast, carrying whispers of war from the north. Here, in this fortress of stone and iron, the fate of the world was being rewritten by hands that had once been forced to hide.

Following the cleansing of saidin at Shayol Ghul, the taint no longer drives them mad, though the shadowing of the Black Tower by Taim's agents remains a scar on their history. The loyalist Asha'man remain essential to the Dragon's forces, providing the necessary counterweight to the Dark One’s channelers in the Last Battle.

- The name 'Asha'man' was chosen by Rand al'Thor to distinguish them from the Aes Sedai, though some Aiel initially referred to them as 'the Dragon's Men'.
